Join Grant Edwards and Dr. Ron Braley as they tackle the alarming statistic that 80% of new believers abandon their faith within three months, offering insights on foundational versus formational discipleship, emphasizing the importance of structured guidance, and providing practical strategies to help churches retain and nurture new Christians. Grant Edwards and Dr. Ron Braille present on the critical need for foundational discipleship in churches, given that 80% of new believers walk away from faith within three months. They emphasize that every Christian can be a disciple maker, starting with foundational discipleship that involves one-on-one guidance focusing on the initial three months of a new believer's journey. Grant shares his personal testimony and insights from decades of discipling, stressing the importance of teaching foundational disciplines such as prayer, Bible study, fellowship, and witnessing. They advocate for immediate, personal discipleship over broader formational approaches, arguing that effective one-on-one discipleship builds a strong foundation that can greatly reduce the high attrition rate among new believers.

In this session, Chip and Anthony emphasize the importance of every individual living on mission for Jesus through a structured pathway of seeking, following, growing, and going, highlighting intimate 'huddles' for effective disciple-making, and offering practical guidelines and resources to foster a dynamic, mission-focused community. In this episode, the speakers emphasize the importance of living on mission for Jesus by creating pathways for disciple making within the church. They advocate for a shift from a solely gathering mentality to a sending mentality, aiming to empower individuals to live their mission. They introduce a concept called 'huddles,' small groups of 2-5 people, fostering transparent and intimate discipleship environments. The focus is on establishing habitual rhythms of seeking, following, growing, and going, through three fundamental practices: sharing the heart, the message, and the mission. They reference Bobby Harrington and Alex Absalom's book 'Discipleship That Fits' and provide practical guidance for implementing these huddles effectively. The episode includes a discussion on the role of the leader, the optimal size, duration, location for huddles, and the importance of multiplying these groups over time.

The Pathway to Discipleship: Following Jesus' Footsteps
In this episode, Chip and Anthony emphasize the importance of a structured pathway beyond weekly church services, based on four commands from Mark 1:17, offering practical assessments and insights to help individuals transition from seekers to mission-oriented disciples. This episode addresses the commitment to becoming a disciple of Jesus, focusing on the steps and processes that follow this commitment. The speaker reflects on their early experiences with faith, emphasizing the need for a structured approach to discipleship beyond attending church services. Using a metaphor of creating trails in the woods, Chip highlights the importance of following a clear path in life, akin to Jesus' invitation to his disciples in Mark 1:17 to 'follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.' This episode outlines a discipleship pathway with focal points including speaking one's purpose, knowing the word, investing in individuals, lifting one's heart through prayer, living in community, and sharing the message. The session leverages Luke 2:40-52 to underscore Jesus' growth as a model for discipleship and presents an assessment for self-evaluation in these key areas. The goal is to live on mission, grow in faith, follow Jesus' footsteps, and help others do the same on the mission of Disciple Making.

In this episode, Tim continues to address the problem of men not understanding biblical manhood. The traditional answer, centered on performance and duty, is not resonating with men today, leading many men to feel confused and disconnected from their faith. Let’s let Tim share some insights with us on how we can begin to foster biblical understanding and spiritual growth in our churches.
The episode focuses on the question 'What is a biblical man?' and discusses the inadequacies of traditional performance-based definitions. With statistics showing that men are disengaging from church activities and leadership, the speaker introduces three truths to redefine biblical manhood: understanding one's identity as a child of God, living life through Jesus, and viewing life from God's perspective. The speaker mentions a new model called 'The Man Journey' and emphasizes the need for identity and spiritual growth over performance. Discussions include the importance of scripture immersion, role modeling, group dynamics, and accountability. The session also highlights effective biblical study tools, discipleship, and the significance of transparent leadership to foster true spiritual growth.

In this episode, we dive into a crucial challenge faced by men today: what is a 'biblical man?' Tim underscores the need to provide a coherent, relatable answer, especially to our younger men. He proposes three core truths that define a biblical man. First, understanding one's identity as a child of God, distinct from one's actions but profoundly influencing them. Second, learning to live by the life of Jesus within us, which allows men to embrace their imperfection and lean on Christ's strength. Third, seeing how this understanding transforms daily living, enabling men to make a significant impact while enjoying a deeper relationship with God.

Tim Brown from Re Up Men's Movement addresses the pressing issues faced by men in today's society, particularly focusing on identity and the importance of understanding one's identity in Christ. He highlights the startling statistics related to church involvement, faith abandonment among young men, and the lack of male participation in church activities. Many men derive their value from their material possessions and professional achievements rather than from their identity in Christ, resulting in leadership issues and a sense of despair, confusion, and hopelessness. This episode underscores the need for men to seek friendship, community, and spiritual growth, promoting a model of discipleship and intentional time with fewer people for greater impact.

New Resource on Disciple Making Culture!

A disciple making church culture is what your church actually does in disciple making; strategy is your plans on paper. Unfortunately, while we have good intentions to make disciples, our strategy and church culture do not always line up.

Read this 10 minute book – a visual summary – and share it with your leaders so everyone can better understand what it means to have a disciple making culture.

“Culture eats strategy for breakfast.”

The Harvard Business Review describes it this way: “The values, beliefs and behaviors practiced in an organization formed over time because they are rewarded or punished (i.e. by formal or informal rules, rituals, and behaviors.”

The McKinsey Institute put it more simply: “culture is how we do things around here …”

That statement, often attributed to the most influential management guru of our time, Peter Drucker. What Drucker meant by “culture eats strategy for breakfast” was that lasting change in an organization comes only when the culture of an organization changes. Applying this to church, if you do not change the culture of a church, the church will not change.

Many leaders fail to account for this reality.

This gets at the root of why our disciple making plans can so easily fail. We try great strategies—preaching on disciple making, small groups, D-Groups, etc. But our churches will not change—indeed cannot change—because “culture” easily defeats the strategies we adopt.
